The British Embassy partnered with National Geographic to host the 2009 Women’s Empowerment Conference to promote gender equality as an issue central to U.S. foreign policy towards Africa. The program featured such notable women as: Baroness Valerie Amos of Great Britain; Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women’s Issues, Melanne Verveer; Global Ambassador for CARE, Sheila Johnson; Emmy-award winning news anchor, Tracey Neale, and many others.

Tasked with branding, promoting, and helping to plan the event, Vibrant Design Group had four weeks to create all event collateral, web and print ads, a registration site, a viral marketing strategy, signage, and development of “The African Village: Artisans & Advocates” marketplace which featured artisans with beautiful jewelry, artwork, and clothing for sale, as well as nonprofit organizations that are working to empower women. By utilizing a combination of social media, strategic partnerships, advertising, and earned media, the conference was filled to capacity (1600 spots) within two weeks of opening registration. The event was a remarkable success and garnered coverage by more than two dozen media outlets.
