FREEDOM HOUSE MUSEUM
After an exciting year of design and development, the Freedom House Museum officially opened its doors on February 12, 2008 to rave reviews! The opening—attended by Virginia Congressman, Jim Moran and Alexandria Mayor, William D. Euille—generated a whirlwind of press from more than ten local media including The Washington Post and Alexandria Gazette, as well as coverage of the ribbon-cutting ceremony by FOX 5 News.
Vibrant Design Group spearheaded the creation of this inspiring museum—from preservation and construction to commissioned illustration, photography and exhibit design. With more than 500 visitors in its first week, the museum captures the history of Alexandria’s domestic slave trade and fosters culture through learning. With a child-friendly, interactive kiosk and a state-of-the-art, motion-sensored video chronicling stories of slave life, there's something for everyone.
Freedom House’s opening enhanced the Northern Virginia Urban League’s profile in the region while showcasing its message of empowerment and change. It's a wonderful example of how building a brand from the ground up—in this case quite literally—can breathe new life into an organization.
