WHAT A DEBUT!

NUL 100 logo

On July 27, we unveiled the National Urban League’s Centennial Empowerment Exhibit, commemorating the civil rights organization's 100th anniversary at the 2010 Annual Conference in Washington, DC. The opening, hosted by President & CEO, Marc H. Morial, drew such notable figures as Rev. Jesse Jackson, Vernon Jordan, Alexis Herman, Cornell West, and many others.

Hailed as a multimedia phenomenon with more than 25 high-definition LCD's, the design—which chronicles the Urban League’s journey to the present—drew audible gasps, caused tears to flow, and visibly inspired attendees of all ages and races to take charge of the future. The 4000+ square foot, high-tech, high-touch exhibit traces the history of the Urban League through an interactive look at its vision for future generations of communities of color. Sponsored by AT&T and designed and built in a record-breaking five months, the exhibit aims to empower visitors to actively improve their communities and change lives. Plans are underway for it to travel to major U.S. cities in the future. CLICK HERE to view more images of this inspiring exhibit.

BRANDING FROM THE INSIDE OUT™

Our next Branding from the Inside Out™ workshop is slated for October 2010. Be on the look out for details in the next issue. A recent article in BusinessWeek magazine indicated that McDonald’s has revamped its marketing strategy from enticing ethnic audiences with items based on the taste of mainstream audiences, to exactly the opposite. They have realized that ethnic or multicultural audiences set the trends that the rest of the world adapts to, and have incorporated that concept into introducing new menu items.  According to McDonald’s U.S. Chief Marketing Officer, “The ethnic consumer tends to set trends….so they help set the tone for how we enter the marketplace.”

What McDonald’s has embraced is that the multicultural audience cannot be placed in a generic box and marketed to.  Therefore, as the results of this year’s U.S. Census take shape, the new demographics of this nation’s consumers will tremendously impact the way business market to you, and the way you, in turn, market to your clients. As you evaluate new ways to attract a diverse clientele, consider McDonald’s example and explore alternate strategies to become a trendsetter with your company, organizational or personal brand—then contact us to help you develop your brand strategy.
